Chain Link Fence (also referred to wire netting, wire mesh fence, chain wire fence, cyclone fence, hurricane fence or diamond mesh fence) is a type of woven fence usually made from hot dip galvanized or green color/black color PVC-coated steel wire. The wires run vertically and are bent into a zig-zag pattern so that each "zig" hooks with the wire immediately on one side and each "zag" with the wire immediately on the other. This forms the characteristic diamond pattern seen in this type of fence.

The height range of the chain fence makes it suitable for a wide range of applications. Shorter heights are often used in residential settings to reduce visual field barriers. Higher fences are often chosen for commercial use because higher levels of safety can provide more height.

The only difference between galvanized and vinyl coated links is that the vinyl coating is sealed around the metal. The metal under the vinyl chain has actually been galvanized and the vinyl is placed around it. This makes it easy to determine which one is better equipped to handle weathering over time.
